Step-1: Unplug the vacuum before maintenance:

Step-2: Check the bag regularly:
A vacuum cleaner bag when filled 2/3 rd, it is considered as full. It is ready to be replaced with a new one without delay. Remember that air must pass through the dirt and debris freely. When the bag is fully loaded the machine feel harder to work.
Always check with your hand whether the bag is full or not. It is very important to note that whether the vacuum cleaner is missing any large debris or leaves behind fuzz.
Step-3: Replace the bag when it is full:
When a vacuum cleaner bag is 2/3 rd filled it is said to be fully loaded or fully filled. It is due the fact that 100% loaded bag cannot pass air through it and as such the efficiency of the machine slows down. Look for security of bag for the clip or holders are in place. Use correct size bag and according to the type of machine.
Step-4: Empty the bin or container:

Step-5: Clean Brush roll:
This brush roll is also called as a beater bar, while the spinning brushes underneath and brushes dirt out of the carpet. Look under the machine and locate the brush roll. Normally it will locate front of the bottom. If it is filled with hairs, thread and other debris it is ready for cleaning.
Now removes the bottom plate, the cover may have clip, latches or screws for holding in place. Be careful not to lose the screws. Also notice the direction in which way brush roll goes. Usually there will be a belt on one side and a corresponding space on brush roll for the belt.

Step-6: Clean and lubricate the bearings:
With the help of your finger spin the brush roll on its axle to check whether it freely spins. If it does not freely spin then you should thoroughly check and clean the bearing until it freely spins. Accordingly you need to lubricate the bearing. In needed you can change the bearing.
It is so important that sometime you need to change even the whole brush roll, all these changes eing in ascending order of expenses. Remove all the debris in and around the bearings. All ways try to remove the bearings very carefully so that you can reload the bearings correctly with no confusion.
Remove the cap on other end and both the caps are on the long axle so you need to the axle still to remove the nest cap. Clean thoroughly the other end of bearing and lubricate it properly. Very carefully replace the both end caps and the replace the bearings exactly as before.
Step-7: Check the belt wearing
- Check that the belt has wearied. If so then change it immediately.
- For cleaning the brush roll remove any cover plate.
- Pull on the belt with your fingers, it should be very taut.
- Compare the belt with a new one and if it is stretched out than the new one then change it immediately.
- Check the belt whether it remains at right place. If however it is shifted from its own position the belt might worn out or become loose.At this stage also you need to change the belt.
- The belt to be replaced after every 6 months or every year depending on the volume of work.
- Brush roll to be removed as previous case.
- Check and the belt needs to slide off the drive shaft or off the pulley.
- The new belt needs sliding on over the pulley and on over the drive shaft.
Step-8: Remove any large accumulation of debris
As soon as you notice any large accumulation of debris immediately remove it.
Step-9: Replace brush roll.
- Put the brush roll back through the belt and it may feel very tight.
- Replace the brush roll in its slots in exact position.
- Make sure the belt still remains over the drive shaft and the brush roll
- Replace cover plates as like as you opened it first time.
Step-10: Clean or replace any filter
All vacuum cleaners possess filters on the exhaust air to catch the particles that remain in it.Read the manual to clean the filters and how to replace and it may very easy installation. If your filters are made of plastic or foam you can easily rinse with water or other liquid.
But be careful to replace it in the vacuum cleaner before complete dry. If the filters are made of paper or fabrics you need to shake well or pound out the debris between replacements.
Step-11:Check the hose for clogging
Clogging does not occur frequently but when you lost suction there is certainly clogging. In such cases try to push gently a broomstick through the hose to dislodge the clumps of debris that are stuck.
- You should be careful so that the clogs are not stuck more tight.

Step-12:Lubricate the moving parts
